Shoreline Highway Revegetation Project
The Shoreline Highway Revegetation Project is a native plant restoration project occurring along an erosion/land-slide feature adjacent to US Highway 1 near Muir Beach, California. Hanford has been contracted to perform this work by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Construction was completed in Spring 2018 and revegetation work is ongoing. There are several projects of similar scope scheduled for the next several years along US-1 that Hanford has been selected to perform.
The project goals have been a reduction in invasive plant species and survivorship of native plug plants and seeds, with long-term objectives being erosion control and recruitment from the native species that can out-compete invasive plants. To be successful, Hanford performs weed management, native planting, hydroseeding, and watering via a water truck or an irrigation system. To date, Hanford has installed over 10,000 plants native to the area. This project is unique in that many of the sites require fall protection gear and lane closure of US-1.
